My graduate film from Sheridan College, 7-8 months in the making. I finally decided to post it. So much hard work, lots of fun and many many dear memories.
Trunkated is a film set in a surreal world of floating elephants and motherships. It follows the story of one such elephant that falls down onto unfamiliar land, and his journey back where he belongs.

The whole point of a 24 hour film, is that it be finished in 24 hours- a new concept, from start to finish, just to get that rusty tired mind doing something new and hopefully exciting, and be done with it within the stipulated period of time. HOWEVER, I got a little carried away with mine, and my conditions were very suitable to allow me to work on this piece leisurely.

This is how it started off:

I stole Eddie's deer designs and placed them on this unhappy octopus.

The deer turned to mountain goats (such fascinating creatures), and then this happened:

Unfortunately, out of the few animals present, most were taking the post lunch afternoon nap. It was cool however, to be biking again, even if only for a couple of hours, coming across many many couples ( lovers) in crevices and corners.

Lunch consisted of extremely sweet tea and veg. puff. Can't complain.

The hippo graced us with movement, as it rose up from under the murky waters, turned its back towards us, and pooped, fanning the excrement with its tail as it exited the body.

Inspired by my very talented friend Jen, and her awesome concept art and in-production stop motion film! The entire process of stop motion is so amazing to watch, from concept to puppet and set building- there isn't any undo button, and that seems to me the scariest and most appealing characteristic. Kudos to the medium!

I absolutely love the feeling of getting on a plane, and going somewhere- be it a 1hour journey or a 10 hour one, or even 18 hours- the longer the flight, the more the food, at the cost of sleep, ofcourse.
I wait at Pearson for my flight to finally board, after an unexpected night of a cancelled flight and 3 movies and friends, and an expensive dinner- it only seems right to blog (since they have free wifi here, and its so cool to be seen working on a laptop).
We witnessed (my first) lunar eclipse on the way to the airport, truly wonderful.

Since I couldnt come up with anything right away, this seemed appropriate to post, something done a while ago, during those noisy summer nights in London.

Its a lot of fun observing how a newspaper soaks up a pool of black ink, and how the letters start glistening, black against black, the pictures slowly turning a glossy black themselves, with a vague hint of the colour they had, till the whole paper is wet with ink- a rich dark bluish black. You really want to know what it would look like dried up. So you decide to dry the paper, even though its a rainy day, but its soaking wet with ink, and now theres ink on the placemats, and on the floor, and you are tempted to take the wet newspaper and wipe the entire floor with it, to see what cool patterns might come out, and so you do. Then you walk all over it, and make inky footprints all over the house, then with those inky hands, take pictures of this amazing victory against the ink. The tiled floor is a mess, and so are you. The paper eventually dries up, its still black.

Unfortunately i have no such pictures. I wish i did.
The ink however, did spill.

It started off as a doodle for eddie (who now has a blog!)

I am still trying to absorb London, exploring as much as I can. It is great to be in a new place- so much to do so much to see, I almost forget I am alone. Working at Trunk has been very enjoyable. A link to some happy times.
There is some definite home sickness, but that's always bound to be there. So all I can do is soak up this lovely city while I'm here!

Today I saw a woman with a cd player- seemed worth mentioning.

Also, its very amusing that there are models of elephants all over this place.

A long overdue post marking the end of third year! The most exhausting and interesting year so far. Our film turned out pretty good, surprised we ended up finishing! I absolutely loved animating the bird. A few snapshots from the bird walk.

I had no idea what to expect from a rave party, but it was definitely a very interesting experience. What stuck with me was the freedom with which the people danced- everyone's body moving to the music, but in completely different, uninhibited ways. The event truly did celebrate life.

My summer project! Hopefully to be completed, an extension of what i started working on in the "animating to music" course taken by the one and only Mark Mayerson! It was a very interesting program, though i cant say i did justice to his classes. Flowers were blooming, the rain was pouring, and oakville was actually pretty- it was very hard to stay indoors :P

This project was inspired and is dedicated to my sister (Nivedita) and brother (Vasant). Love you both!

Being back home is great as usual. After spending many months in bland Canada (no offence), where being a vegetarian further reduces my options, I am overwhelmed by the amazing amounts and variety of flavourful food here. The weather is a small price I pay, it is pretty humid, but atleast its not snowing!

We biked to Cora's a few days back. A beautiful long bike ride in the rain, down and up the hill, on the highway, and down a construction area, led us to the house of delicious breakfast. It didn't strike me to bring my sketchbook, so i ended up drawing on the paper table mat thingy, creeping on a table filled with women, dressed to impress.

5 days in montreal was the perfect break from oakville and second year. Fully packed with walking, sketching and eating, i couldn't have asked for a better combination! i was a little concerned about my french, considering i know nothing of the language, other than the common hi/hellos, but once i learned that most people speak english as well, i just stopped trying. Bonjour and merci, that was pretty much it.
Montreal is just so different from every other city I've lived in. Everything and everyone just seems to relaxed and laid back. The atmosphere was great; the vacation was short and sweet.

If it doesn't make any sense to you, then you're lowly life form because you haven't seen Slum Dog Millionaire. This movie is a definite must see. Its about a boy from the slums of Mumbai who goes on to win a tv show, and his story. Beautiful music, good cinematography, and most importantly, the amazing streets of Mumbai!

This has nothing to do with the movie, obviously, but it is inspired from another set of three musketeers- my mom, sister and myself :P.

Second year, so far, has been amazing..the classes, the teachers, the studio! Its been a month since school has started, and I should really be working right now..or sleeping..sleep is good.

I just thought I'd upload some stuff i did over the summer..its not a lot..i shoudl have done a lot more..but oh well..

The zoo! Im so glad i got to go there..it wasnt a very pleasant experience though..it was atleast 40 degrees C..very very humid (yay for delhi weather!)..we were so dehydrated by the end of it..but it was worth it

Summer has been great so far. Spending time with family and friends..getting to know them better, I have learnt a lot in a few months; apart from being a lot of fun, the past few weeks have been very enlightening..shall i say?
I love buying vegetables. The presence of vegetables, be it raw or cooked, makes me happy. Its all potential food..and have i mentioned, i really love food? If not, well, now you know. So, the other day, i accompanied my mom to the vegetable market. As she was paying the vendor, he takes out his fancy cellphone and starts yapping. Its amazing how nearly EVERYone has a cellphone here..its way cheaper than canada..which sucks for me.

The last painting assignment was the most fun, I actually got to experiment with my tablet. I was so busy during school that i never got time to use it, but this was a good chance. We had to paint a character in an environment, so i thought what better person than mister bubba here :D
..oh an yeah, i cheaped out big time on the foreground..it was 5 in the morning of the due date, and i was sleepy.

WOW, I cannot believe my first year at Sheridan has ended(... technically my second if i count fundies..but who counts fundies? :P ) This year has just zoomed by, but so much has happened, my most eventful year so far, and I'm looking forward to some more.
I am back home in India now, it is HOT, but that shouldn't stop me. I must go out and sketch. I doubt there is any life drawing here, so I should probably make it up by cafe sketching..hmmm

okay, so this is what Anna calls it, so don't blame me for the title's lameness :P

Anna and I decided to do something together with m my tablet, so she painted this amazingly cute bird and I did the layout. This is the first of many to come! :D
It is nearly the end of my first year at Sheridan, and I actually can't wait for it to be done with. This year was amazing, bla bla...but I've just reached the point where i want to enjoy the weather and do my own thing. I know I'm going to miss Sheridan like crazy in the summer, but I'll be back in the fall!

..for good reason too- they're such drab and dull days. We have a day off from school, and i should be rejoicing. I had the best 2 hours sleep I've had in a long time, but yet i complain.
I thought I'd post something with colour on this bland white day. This is one painting that i particularly enjoyed last semester. It's not as detailed as few other awesome ones from my class, but I love the mood I've captured. (forgive the crappy photography-I'll post a better version if i ever get around to scanning this one)

Its nearly the last week of the semester, and I'm kind of surprised i dont have a whole lot of work to do-not that I'm complaining, but it just feels weird to not have stuff to do you know?
I finally got the 20 sketchbook drawings done. Its amazing how I took the most time for probably the simplest assignment of the semester. After a very very long time, I sat down to read a novel last night. I am giving classics another shot, again- this time, hopefully, i should like it.
Anyway, I finally have stuff from this semester to show!

Ms. Smelzly! Now she, was a lot of fun. Her name of supposed to have 2 e's at the end, but i ran out of space, so she now is smelzly not lee . Pooh, anyway, playing with her fat was kind of tough in terms of structure, but totally worth it. The colour stuff was on the side, my way of procrastinating :p

The expression sheet was a lot of fun too. I tried to deviate from cuteness in my character design, but I still think she is pretty cute :P

It is ridiculous how many random and unnecessary things i have eaten today- cereal, chips, chocolate, rice, veggies, chocolate, granola bar, chocolate, chocolate milk, chocolate... Every time i ate, I was fully aware of how not-hungry i was, but yet, i continue. My relationship with chocolate is a love-hate one, right now, I am hating it. I haven't got much work done today either. I just finished having yougurt and rice- to the few people who do read my blog, yogurt and rice is a very yummy indian thing, so dont get grossed out. I havent got anything scanned in to put up in this blog, and I am not exactly satisfied with what I have. So, till next time...!
